Ever since Disney Store locations across the nation kicked off Summer Play Days, fans have been showing up at the participating stores on time every day to redeem one of the 14 Tsum Tsum wristbands. A new character is released every Wednesday. To collect them all, fans must attend one event every week from June 4 to September 5.

Every day at a designated time which varies by store, cast members host an event that can range from trivia games to story time to drawing. All participating guests will be rewarded with a Tsum Tsum wristband at the end of the event. You will need to call your local Disney Store to find out the event times. Most events last no more than 5 to 10 minutes so you want to ensure you don’t miss it, otherwise, the casts are very strict about handing wristbands out without participation of the event.

I went on the week of 6/22 and 6/29 when the Bailey from Finding Dory and Nick Wilde from Zootopia bands were released respectively. The two weeks featured very different events. During Bailey’s week, guests were invited to play a Disney trivia! Some of the questions were easy for the general population (e.g. what colors are Captain America’s shield?) while some requires a little bit more thinking (e.g. what year was Disneyland California build?) The host also attempted to engage everyone in the audience from 3 to 40 year-olds! For Nick’s week, the store hosted “Camouflage like Hank” for the younger guests. The host revealed several backgrounds in which Hank from Finding Dory must camouflage into. The host encouraged the young guests to analyze the backgrounds and determine the colors Hank must transition into in order to stay hidden.

The cast members I’ve talked to stressed that participation is all that is required to redeem the Tsum Tsum wristband. There is no competition and everyone is rewarded for coming!

The character release schedule is listed on DisneyStore.com and fans have the opportunity to receive the exclusive ultimate collector wristband set featuring a Mickey and a Minnie wristbands if they collect all 14 characters! As a Disney Rewards Visa cardholder, I was also eligible to receive a cardholder exclusive Nemo wristband, which you can conveniently inquire from the event host before or immediately after the daily event.
